With James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy set to introduce a new era for the Man of Steel on the big screen, now is the perfect time to revisit one of the most beloved Superman adaptations: Smallville, whether you are new to the series or returning out of nostalgia you won’t be disappointed.
Smallville examines Clark Kent’s life as a teenager in Smallville, Kansas. We see how he discovers his powers, which become useful later on. As they emerge, the results can range from comical to horrifying.
We also learn about his notorious arch-villain, Lex Luthor, who happens to live in the same town. His story is just as great as Clark’s, and they have many legendary scenes together throughout the series as they go from friends to enemies more than once.
We also learn about Clark’s romantic relationships as a teenager before he meets Lois Lane, and we are even able to be there when he meets her for the first time. Other great characters we get to learn about include Clark’s parents, who have a much bigger role in the show than in any of the movies, and Lex Luthors father, who plays a big part in creating the evil villain his son turns out to be.
Throughout its ten-season run, Smallville introduces a variety of characters from the DC Comics universe, including members of the Justice League, like Green Arrow, Cyborg, and Aquaman. There are also plenty of villains besides Lex and his father, including Brainiac, Doomsday, and Zod.
