Watch this delightful holiday movie on Hulu: A Christmas Movie Christmas

I love Christmas movies, and have a great affection for holiday romcom-type films (think “Hallmark” Christmas movies), so I was delighted to see that one of my favorites is currently streaming on Hulu. While A Christmas Movie Christmas is not a Hallmark film, it definitely pays loving tribute to the types of movies you can watch on that channel each holiday season.

A Christmas Movie Christmas is an UPtv original that first aired in 2019, and its upbeat, festive theme was probably just the ticket for people in the early throes of the COVID panic. As you may or may not have guessed by its title, it was specifically made for people who love the predictable, comforting events that are evident in every single holiday romcom.

Our heroines are sisters Eve (Lana McKissack) and Lacy (Kimberly Daugherty), who share a tiny apartment with no working heat, and we meet them during the holiday season, of course. Lacy is cynical, but Eve is cheerful and loves Christmas…especially romantic Christmas movies. Her favorite actor in that realm is the dreamy Chad Matthew Monroe (Randy Wayne), star of the Christmas at Christmas Cove series.

In part to cope with troubles at work, Eve tries to put up a ton of Christmas lights at home, but blows a fuse, so she and Lacy go out in the cold to get some hot chocolate. While out, they encounter a bell ringing Santa and make the obligatory wish. Eve wishes for magical Christmas of course, but Lacy keeps her wish a secret.

The next morning, the sisters wake up in full hair and makeup, wearing silly Christmas pajamas and in a house they don’t recognize. Once they venture out of their room, wielding Christmas décor as weapons, they discover they are at Gram Gram’s house, and she has made them the most delicious cinnamon waffles in existence.

They further find out that they are in Holiday Falls, which includes every Christmas movie trope you hope to find: Beautiful Christmas lights and decorations inside and outside, carolers, townspeople dressed in appropriate holiday attire, the world’s cutest child (named London), and of course, a handsome leading man for each of them…two for Eve.

They find out that in order to return to their real lives, they have to see their wishes through. That means Eve must choose between her “boyfriend” Russell (who looks exactly like Chad Michael Monroe) and the local innkeeper Dustin (Ryan Merriman). And Lacy has to let her hard heart soften enough to realize that she loves Paul (Brant Daugherty), the baker who has fallen hard for her.

Paul is head over heels for the skeptical Lacy, even leaving her cutesy drawings – in one case, a drawing of her sleeping, which is kind of creepy. And the sisters also have to help save the town’s annual Christmas festival.

I cannot begin to tell you how delightful A Christmas Movie Christmas is, I am pretty sure I always watch the entire movie with a gigantic grin on my face. Each character perfectly embodies their assigned trope, and you will most likely chuckle at the familiar events throughout the run time.

Brant and Kimberly Daugherty wrote the screenplay, and they also play Lacy and Paul. Though they met in 2016, they were married the same year the film was released. If you love Christmas movies, I recommend making a cup of hot chocolate, turning on your Christmas lights and getting cozy on your couch when you watch A Christmas Movie Christmas.
