The best psychological horror films on Hulu to keep you sleepless
By Ed Malaker
If you prefer horror movies that get under your skin and question reality, Hulu has curated quite the selection of films that dive deep into the human psyche, blending suspense with mystery and terror in ways that leave you sleepless. Let’s explore some of the darkest corners of the human mind.
Best psychological horror on Hulu
The Immaculate Room
The Immaculate Room reminded me of those memes you always see on Facebook asking if you would stay in some strange location for a large sum of money, and that is exactly what this film asks. It was written and directed by Mukunda Michael Dewil and centers around a couple who agree to spend 50 days in a stark white room with no distractions for a chance to win 5 million dollars, but if they leave early, they get nothing.
The film does a great job of exploring the psychological toll of isolation, the fragility of relationships, and the cost of material greed. It had excellent performances by Emile Hirsch, who played Brad, and Kate Bosworth, who played Kate.
No Exit
No Exit was a fun watch that kept me on the edge of my seat. It follows a woman who gets caught in a snowstorm on her way to see her mother, and that forces her to stop at a rest stop where there are also several other people, only to find a kidnapped child locked in a van outside.
No Exit is a mystery with plenty of twists and turns, and it’s another film that features great acting from a small cast. This one will have you questioning if you really need to make that sop on your next trip.
Deep Water
Deep Water is a fantastically dark film starring Ben Affleck as Vic Van Allen and Ana de Armas as Melinda that dives into the all too familiar troubles that can take place behind the scenes in a marriage. In this movie, Malinda openly has affairs while Vic seems to tolerate it to avoid divorce, but it isn’t long before her lovers start to go missing or turn up dead.
Deep Water is another story that will remind you of events you see happening in real life, especially if you watch a lot of court TV. It’s a little slow to get started, but will have you thinking about it long after it’s over.

The Cursed
The Cursed, directed by Sean Ellis, is a haunting and atmospheric horror film set in late 19th-century rural France. It follows John McBride (played by Boyd Holbrook), who comes to investigate a series of gruesome attacks in a small village that the people who live there believe is part of a curse.
Aside from being a solid horror film, its exploration of greed, guilt, and the consequences of human cruelty makes watching it a memorable experience.
Grimcutty
We couldn’t leave without mentioning a Hulu original, and Grimcutty is one of the best films on this list and in the genre. It’s about a teenage girl who has to deal with a terrifying meme that comes to life to cause teens to injure themselves and others. It takes a hard look at technology, especially the growing gap between parents and tech-savvy children.
It features great performances by Shannyn Sossamon as Leah and Sara Wolfkind as Asha, among many others. I also particularly enjoyed the sound editing in this as I felt it really added to the atmosphere and the suspense.
