The Girl From Plainville gets extra points for being based on a true crime story, which makes it all the more gripping. It’s the story of Michelle Carter and the infamous texting suicide case. It’s a thought-provoking thriller that dives into the psychological and legal complexities that are involved with such an event, and there are many great performances throughout its eight-episode run.

The Act is a dramatized retelling of the true story of Gypsy Rose Blanchard and her mother, Dee Dee, whose toxic relationship leads to shocking consequences and a trial that people watched around the country. It’s a thought-provoking eight-episode series packed with great performances by Joey King and Patricia Arquette and expertly blended psychological drama and thriller elements.

Under the Banner of Heaven

Under the Banner of Heaven features amazing acting by Andrew Garfield as Detective Jeb Pyre, who investigates a brutal double murder in a devout Mormon community.
