Only Murders in the Building: A season finale with twists, tears, and loose ends
By Ed Malaker
Only Murders in the Building has been a lot of fun this season, and it kept us going right up until the end. While some people might have figured it out, I didn’t see it coming before the reveal. However, there are still some lingering questions about the future of the show. Here’s a look at the biggest takeaways from the final episode and some guesses about what we think will happen next.
A powerful send-off
The emotional send-off to Sazz Pataki, who had many great scenes throughout the series, was a highlight of the episode. It would be hard not to feel for Charles after he lost such a close friend, especially after discovering a whole other side of her, which I’m sure he wished he got to know.
This event contrasted the show’s usually light-hearted tone and is sure to leave a lasting impact on anyone who has been following the series. Fortunately, they were able to bring justice to Sazz by finding her killer.
The mystery that keeps on giving
While the season finale provided a satisfying resolution to Sazz’s murder, the final moments teased new mysteries and possible links back to the first season. Some “loose ends” have come to light, including unexplained character motives and unresolved backstories.
The show’s writers have strategically left threads hanging throughout each of the seasons, suggesting that Only Murders in the Building may weave these connections into a larger story arc in the future to bring everything together in a big finale that is hopefully many seasons in the future.
What’s next for Only Murders in the Building?
As Season 5 approaches, fans are eager to see how the show’s creators will continue to expand the storylines introduced in this finale. Will the clues left in this season come full circle in the next, and will the action start to move away from the Arconia?
Only time will tell, but fans are ready for the return of Mabel, Charles, and Oliver to the Arconia for another season filled with twists, turns, and laughs. Catch the first four seasons of Only Murders in the Building right now on Hulu.
