Hulu subscribers get a real Halloween treat this year as Family Guy released a new special titled Peter, Peter, Pumpkin Cheater, which is the first time they released a Halloween-themed special and also marks the 25th anniversary of the fan-favorite show.

Plot summary

Peter, Peter, Pumpkin Cheater centers on Peter’s desire to dethrone Patrick McCloskey, the reigning champion of Quahog’s annual Pumpkin Contest. This causes him to take increasingly ridiculous measures to secure his victory, in typical Family Guy fashion.

Meanwhile, Stewie’s subplot takes a darker turn when his beloved teddy bear, Rupert, comes to life and goes on a rampage. Some tension between Rupert and Brian helps create a chaotic episode that is as unsettling as it is funny.

Special guest stars and voice talent

Glen Powell, known for his roles in Top Gun: Maverick and Twisters, takes center stage as the main antagonist, Patrick McCloskey. His presence gives fans a memorable new face as an absurd competitor of Peter.

Adding to the excitement is Derek Jacobi’s portrayal of Rupert, Stewie’s teddy bear. As Rupert comes to life, Jacobi’s performance brings an eerie, dramatic flair to the character, giving Rupert an unexpected depth.

Family Guy’s first Halloween special

Despite being on the air since 1999, Family Guy has never produced a dedicated Halloween special. This decision to finally embrace the holiday comes as part of the show’s ongoing 25th-anniversary celebration and shows that the series can continue to evolve in new and unexpected ways.

The Halloween special also signifies a new chapter for Family Guy, which has undergone several changes recently. In addition to airing exclusive specials on Hulu, the series has seen its schedule shift, with reruns now appearing on Comedy Central as part of a broader licensing deal. The introduction of holiday-themed episodes like Peter, Peter, Pumpkin Cheater demonstrates the show’s commitment to delivering new, relevant content to its fanbase.

What’s next for Family Guy?

The Halloween special is only the first of two holiday-themed episodes coming to Hulu this year and is only the beginning of what’s next for Family Guy. A Christmas special is set to come out later in 2024 that will continue the festive fun and give fans more exclusive content to enjoy on the streaming platform as a leadup to the release of a new season.

Family Guy shows no signs of slowing down, and fans can expect new episodes, more holiday-themed specials, and the continued sharp humor that has kept the show relevant for over 25 years. For now, though, viewers can revel in the spooky, funny, and over-the-top moments that make Peter, Peter, Pumpkin Cheater a memorable addition to the series. Watch it on Hulu!
