The holiday season just got brighter because Hulu has officially added Elf to its streaming lineup! This classic has been a favorite in my household for many years, and it’s the perfect way to kick off the holidays.

Whether you’re a longtime fan or a first-time viewer, Elf is funny and full of holiday cheer, so grab your syrup-topped spaghetti and get ready for a good time.

Why Elf is the ultimate holiday movie

Elf was an immediate hit when it opened in theaters in 2003. It was directed by Jon Favreau, who also made many great Marvel movies, including Iron Man and Spider-Man. He recently helped create the extremely popular Star Wars Mandalorian show on Disney+, which you may have bundled with Hulu.

It tells the story of Buddy, a human raised by elves at the North Pole. When he discovers he’s not an Elf, he sets off on a hilarious adventure to New York City to find his biological father. It stars Will Farrell as Buddy, and he puts on a masterclass in comedy, causing out loud laughter throughout the film.

Moments to watch for

  • Any time Buddy is exploring New York City, you know the laughs are about to start rolling out, with some of the funniest moments being of him trying to get around the unfamiliar and busy city.
  • Once you see Buddy’s creative spaghetti meal topped with syrup and candy, you will never forget it.
  • “The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear” is a mantra for the holidays.

Classic Christmas songs featured in Elf

Elf has plenty of delicious Christmas songs that will bring back fond memories of childhood and help get you in the holiday spirit. While you watch, listen for Pennies from Heaven” by Louis Prima, “Santa Baby” by Eartha Kitt, “Baby, It’s Cold Outside,” performed by Zooey Deschanel and Will Ferrell, and “Sleigh Ride” by Ella Fitzgerald. The Elf soundtrack became so popular that it became available as a standalone album in 2003.

The film also features an original score composed by John Debney that is just as magical as the songs mentioned and perfectly conveys the feelings the actors are portraying.
