Can you download movies on Hulu? Here’s everything you need to know
By Ed Malaker
With on-the-go viewing becoming more popular, many streaming users want to watch their favorite shows and movies offline, so you don’t always have to stay home. Hulu offers a download feature, but it’s available under specific conditions. Let’s go over everything you need to know.
Hulu’s download feature
Unfortunately, not all Hulu subscribers have access to the download feature. You need an ad-free account and a mobile device. Compatible devices include the Amazon Fire, Android, Apple iPhone, Apple iPad, and Apple iPod.
At this time, you cannot download movies to your desktop or laptop computers, smart TVs, or gaming consoles. There is no word on if this will change in the future.

How to download movies and shows on Hulu
Open the Hulu app on a compatible device.
Tap the search magnifying glass at the bottom of the screen to bring up a new page,
This new page will have a list of categories, including Movies and Hulu Originals, and at the top, you will see Downloadable.
Tap on Downloadable to bring up a complete list of downloadable shows and movies.
Swipe left and right to look through different collections, including TV, Movies, and Kids.
When you find a movie or show you want to watch, tap on it to bring up the show’s title page.
On the title page, you will see several options, including Watch Movie, but we want the download button below that. You can also choose the download button to the right of a show you want to watch when looking through a season.
Tapping the download button will download the movie or episode to your phone so you can watch it later. It will appear in your downloads tab at the bottom of your screen.
Download limitations and expiration rules
- With one Hulu (No Ads) account, you can download content on up to five devices. If you reach this limit, you’ll need to remove downloads from one device to add another.
- Hulu allows you to store up to 25 downloads across your devices at a time.
- Downloaded titles expire 30 days after downloading or 48 hours after you start watching. When a download expires, you’ll see an “!” icon indicating that it needs renewing. If the title is still available on Hulu, you can restore it by tapping the download icon again.
- To free up space, swipe left on a title in the Downloads section and select “Delete,” or tap the “Edit” button and select multiple titles to remove.
- The download feature adds significant value for subscribers with the Hulu (No Ads) plan. It allows you to enjoy your favorite content without relying on Wi-Fi or mobile data, which is especially useful for travel or areas with limited connectivity.
