Barbie Masked Singer's unmasking: Did fans agree on the result?
By Ed Malaker
The Masked Singer is a great show with exceptional performances and plenty of mystery, and this week’s Barbie episode was no different. Social media was going crazy with opinions, with some even claiming they had guessed correctly well before the dramatic reveal.
The balance between maintaining anonymity and showing off enough personality became a point of contention for fans. Some said they’d guessed the identity by episode two, while others admitted the reveal took them by surprise. Whether or not you know who the loser was, keep reading while we recap some of the highlights.
Memorable performances and subtle hints
Performance 1 Bluebell
First up, after Ken’s amazing performance of “I’m Just Ken” from Barbie, there was Bluebell, who also gave an amazing performance and was fun to watch. Some say it wasn’t as great as last week’s song, but the crowd seemed to enjoy it.
New clues for Bluebell involve the struggle she faced after becoming popular, as well as some images in her journal that included a dragon. Her toy clue was an astronaut.
Performance 2 Goo
Next up was Goo, who sounded like a professional singer on his rendition of Miss Independent from Ne-Yo. He doesn’t move around as much as Bluebird, but the costume and vocals keep your eyes on the TV.
Goo talked about how he recently became engaged, and she helped put him in a better place. His toy was a Malibu Dream House, and he mentioned that he knows Robin Thicke is a fan.
Performance 3 Chess Piece
Chess Piece put on a great performance with plenty of movement. Both her singing and dancing were graceful and well-crafted, and they seemed to improve as the song went on.
Her clues included an onstage Barbievanity that she says was identical to the one she owns. She also mentioned that she couldn’t play with Barbie as a child, though she wanted to.
Performance 4 Wasp
Wasp gave an incredibly emotional performance that had many members of the audience visibly crying. After the song, he also spoke of his difficult upbringing and how he missed his dad.
Wasp also shared that after he left home for a while and returned home, he returned to a loving family that included Dad. His tow was two dolls standing on a stage, and Wasp explained that “Every minute I’m out there, I take my live performances to new heights.”
The Unmasking
Unfortunately, someone always has to leave the show, and this week it was Chess Piece. It was the Barbie Doll of Laverne Cox that many people said gave away her identity, among other things, but hindsight is always 20/20.
None of the judges were able to pick up on the clues, and each gave a wrong guess, so the identity wasn’t that easy to solve. Let us know if you were able to figure it out and if you think it was the right choice.
