With Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD coming to an end, fans are sad to see their favorite team of superheroes go. There’s still a season’s left of adventures but there needs to be more. Could they return to the MCU afterward?

While Agents of SHIELD has diverged from the main continuity of the Marvel Cinematic Universe over the past three seasons, the show’s departure could allow the S.H.I.E.L.D. team to return to the movies. Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) is the only mainstay on the show who’s appeared in an MCU movie but fans probably wouldn’t be against Daisy Johnson (Chloe Bennet) making a cameo.

Daisy “Skye” Johnson has had quite the journey and it presumably won’t end in the seventh season of Agents of SHIELD. She may wind up stuck in the past after their latest adventure but Daisy could still pop up in a movie like Doctor Strange And The Multiverse of Madness.

To be perfectly honest, a movie that involves the use of multiple universes would be ideal for reintroducing SHIELD. Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) are still in the main continuity of the MCU while their colleagues have seemingly drifted into a divergent timeline. There’s no clear way back but perhaps Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) can help with that.

As far as when these S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents could make the jump back into the spotlight, Thor: Love And Thunder seems like the next logical step. It debuts in 2021 and the seventh season of Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD will complete its’ run in 2020, making a transition shortly after feasible.

The other reason Thor: Love And Thunder is more prevalent than the other movies in development is that S.H.I.E.L.D. initially made their presence known in 2010’s Thor. Nick Fury told Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) about the organization in the first two Iron Man movies but it was in Thor that Coulson and S.H.I.E.L.D. got their first opportunity to shine.

Additionally, Thor was also where Natalie Portman made her MCU debut. What’s more, is she’ll be taking over as the God of Thunder in 2021’s movie. So with those things in mind, it would make sense for Taika Waititi to reintroduce Agent Phil Coulson alongside Jane Foster.

The remainder of the cast is just as likely to appear alongside Coulson and Daisy, though they’d probably be relegated to supporting roles. Then again, it wouldn’t surprise us to see Coulson’s entire team alongside some of the MCU’s next generation of superheroes.
