Unlike the majority of announcements made at San Diego Comic-Con, ABC’s shocker of Agents of SHIELD wrapping up after season seven surprised everyone in attendance. The question now is: How will the series end?

Fans who’ve been keeping up with Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD have heard by now that the series has been canceled. The show’s producers announced at San Diego Comic-Con that AoS would complete its’ run following Season Seven next year. This came as both a surprise and a shock for fans in attendance.

While many expected Agents of SHIELD to stick around for another three seasons, some will admit that this is the correct time to close up shop. No one wants the Marvel show to drag on for extra seasons when it can end on a high note. Furthermore, it’s likely a good decision on Marvel and ABC’s behalf to close the curtain on Agents of SHIELD now rather than later.

The good news is that there’s still another season of adventures for our favorite SHIELD team to have, and we may see the whole team back for Season Seven — with the exception of Grant Ward (Brett Dalton) of course.

The penultimate episode of Season Six concluded with Coulson’s doppelganger revealing that he does in fact share some of Coulson’s memories. Sarge isn’t the same person but he’s definitely been influenced by the latter’s better half. He also called Daisy by her codename “Skye” so there’s obviously some of Coulson still left in there.

Whatever happens with Sarge/Coulson, we’re hoping he stays on the team — the main reason being Season Seven would start off with the original crew reunited. There are fallen members we can’t ignore but the mainstays from the beginning are still around. And what better way to wrap up an iconic superhero show like Agents of SHIELD then to reassemble the original crew Avengers-style.

Additionally, Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) should also make one last appearance on the show. They’re somewhere in the Multiverse so them traveling back to the AoS universe could present Marvel with an ideal opportunity to explain how the Multiverse works — that is before Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness takes place.
