Alexa Nisenson, the actress who plays Charlie on Fear The Walking Dead, has been promoted from a recurring star to a series regular for the show’s fifth season. Find out more about the move below.

Warning! Spoilers for the latest seasons of Fear The Walking Dead follow.

Even though she’s been on the series since season three of Fear The Walking Dead, Alexa Nisenson has just now been moved up to series regular. It’s debatable how much of a difference this promotion will mean to Nisenson’s character on the show but the announcement definitely means we’ll be seeing more of Charlie in the upcoming season.

Images released by TV Insider provided a glimpse at Charlie standing alongside Victor Strand (Colman Domingo) but not much can be deduced from the picture. Our guess, however, is she’s still working with Morgan (Lennie James) on his delivery route.

Additionally, Nisenson’s upgraded status as a series regular probably means Charlie plays a more prominent role in the group now. Or, maybe she’s experiencing another bout of depression which will be explored further. Either way, Charlie will be integral to the plot of season five.

Another possible explanation for Charlie’s expanded role is that she’ll be kidnapped at some point. That scenario would place Charlie in the center of all the action, requiring Nisenson to constantly be around for the season. Who knows, it may even be Grace (Karen David) and her friends who capture Charlie.

Whatever the case is, Charlie (Nisenson) has an important role to play in the upcoming season. She may be used as a hostage, recruited by another group, or possibly even sticking with John Dorie (Garret Dillahunt) and June (Jenna Elfman).

John, June, and Charlie appeared to form an impromptu family in season four and would make sense for them to stick together in the coming season. Keep in mind that anytime a character is doing well on a Walking Dead series, either they or someone close to them perishes.

Hopefully, Charlie’s surrogate parents don’t meet their ends in season five. They came extremely close in the Season 4 Finale but were miraculously saved by Morgan. Another near-death experience might not end so pleasantly though.
