The Gifted is on hiatus for two weeks but will return in February with an explosive new episode. And all signs point to a major character being killed. Who could it be?

The penultimate episode of Fox’s The Gifted season two, currently streaming on Hulu, ‘calaMity’, will bring this season to a crescendo by tying up the numerous threads that have been building up over the last few episodes.

According to the promo trailer, it seems Reeva Payge (Grace Byers) may have finally discovered the identity of the member who has been spying on the Inner Circle for the Mutant Underground. But, does Reeva know it is Lorna Dane, aka Polaris (Emma Dumont), or will someone else end up taking the fall?

In the previous episode, ‘teMpted’, Lorna had almost been caught by one of the new recruits but had managed to hatch a plan with Marcos Diaz (Sean Teale), to divert attention from herself. The plan involved hacking in Sage’s (Hayley Lovitt) computers. Could Sage be the one in the firing line instead of Lorna?

Though Lorna’s plan may have saved her, it didn’t work out as well for Marcos, who was badly wounded by one of the Inner Circle’s new recruits, who was then killed in an explosion. The promo makes no mention of Marcos’ fate so we will have to wait and see what state he is in.

The Struckers are once again in the midst of heavy fire, from the footage in the trailer. Lauren’s (Natalie Alyn Lind) connection with her brother, Andy (Percy Hynes White), was severed in the last episode with Lauren taking her father’s mutation-repressing serum. But that already seems to have been the wrong decision. The Purifiers and the police are armed and itching for a fight, and anti-mutant sentiment has only grown since the Inner Circle freed all the captive mutants. And now, with Lauren effectively de-powered, she and her mother, Kate (Amy Acker) might be sitting ducks.

Having said that, Kate has shown that she is the brawn of the Strucker family this season, so she will find a way through the Purifiers. It will be interesting to see how she goes about saving the day, and her family, again. Also, who is that in the backseat of Kate’s car?

It looks like even the Morlocks aren’t safe in the next episode of Fox’sThe Gifted. The trailer shows the Purifiers raiding the Morlock tunnels and firing at the fleeing mutants. Sadly, one major mutant character might be meeting their demise before the season finale. From the promo, it seems that the trigger-happy Purifiers will be gunning down Clarice Fong, aka Blink (Jamie Chung), right in front of John Proudstar (Blair Redford), her partner.

Aside from the fact that we really do not want Blink to die, if this is the direction Fox’sThe Gifted plans to go, it will be a massive loss for mutant-kind. Blink has been the heart of the Mutant Underground, and has been invaluable, not just with her portal abilities, but because her pragmatism keeps the team grounded.

In addition, Blink and John have been the Underground’s power-couple since Lorna and Marcos parted ways. Blink’s defection to the Morlocks was hard enough on John; her death will surely break him—if it’s to be.

As fans will remember, John’s previous partner, Dreamer, was killed in the first season of The Gifted. Dreamer’s death was a catalyst for Lorna joining the Inner Circle—and almost caused John to lose his faith in the Underground. Had it not been for Blink’s dedication to the team, the Mutant Underground would have been sans their fearless leader.

It’s going to be a long two-week wait to find out what happens next on this season. One thing is for sure, it’s going to be exciting, and a possibly heart-breaking finale!
