There’s only more episode of The Conners left this season but it’s going to be a doozy. Find out more in our preview of the season finale below.

In next week’s episode of The Conners, the family will make some life-changing decisions—setting the course for where a possible second season might go. ABC has yet to renew the series for more episodes but considering the massive following now behind the show, it’s safe to say there’s more to come.

As for the upcoming season finale, a number of plot-threads will be resolved while a few new ones take hold. The most concerning is whether or not Darlene (Sara Gilbert) will move in with her new boyfriend, Ben.

Ben (Jay R. Ferguson) asked Darlene to move away with him to Chicago towards the end of “Don’t Shoot The Piano Teacher”. His invitation extended to Darlene’s kids too, proving that Ben wants a permanent relationship with the Conners. The question is, will Darlene move away with him?

The episode synopsis for next week’s season finale of The Conners offers us some insight into the matter. It reads as follows:

"As Darlene grapples with a life-changing offer from Ben, an unexpected conversation with David turns her world even more upside down; relationship problems lead Jackie to the bottom of the bottle; Dan delivers alarming news."

What the synopsis reveals is that David (Johnny Galecki) will return at the most inopportune time. He’ll apparently approach Darlene while she’s deliberating over what to do about Ben. There’s no clear answer but chances are Darlene will choose to stay.

Whether she wants to or not, Darlene has a family that needs her—and the people who do aren’t necessarily her kids. Dan (John Goodman), for instance, relies on Darlene for emotional support and advice when the house’s finances come up. Becky depends on her younger sister just as much, but for emotional needs.

Everyone in the Conner household relies on Darlene in one way or another. Becky (Lecy Goranson) may be the oldest but Darlene has grown into the most responsible and reliable. Of course, that hasn’t stopped Darlene from letting loose every now and again.

The episode synopsis also reveals that Jackie (Laurie Metcalf) will resort to drinking when relationship problems arise. Jackie has never shown any signs of a drinking problem but her issues with Peter (Matthew Broderick) may become so great that she goes on a bender.

In any case, Jackie has a family she can count on for support. Hopefully, she gets over her Peter dilemma quickly because he’s been nothing but trouble from the start.

Lastly, the episode synopsis teases an alarming development in Dan’s life. No details have been provided but our guess is it’ll have something to do with hiring Emilio (Rene Rosado). Dan offered him a job hanging dry-wall but he expressed some concern over Emilio’s status as an illegal immigrant. Nothing came of Dan’s concerns in episode ten but it appears as if there’ll be some backlash in the season finale.

What that’ll entail is anyone’s guess but Dan may be facing serious charges if he’s caught harboring an illegal immigrant. Let’s just hope he doesn’t get deported alongside Emilio. Of course, a prison sentence could be worse.
