While most of us expected to get answers in the Manifest mid-season premiere, we were left with more questions than ever. Find out exactly why in our recap.

Warning! Spoilers for the latest episodes of Manifest follow. You’ve been warned.

When the mid-season premiere of Manifest kicks off, ten days have passed since the last time we saw the whole crew. Ben Stone (Josh Dallas) has moved into his sister’s apartment, Grace (Athena Karkanis) and the kids are dealing with Ben’s departure, and a new hub for the catatonic passengers of Flight 828 has been established.

Saanvi (Parveen Kaur) and Dr. Clarke (Francesca Faridany) are monitoring the patients in a much more hospitable environment, keeping them as comfortable as possible. They’re no longer hooked up to machines that shock them incessantly, nor are the passengers being experimented on — as far as we know.

With an ethereal connection coursing through them all, the Flight 828 passengers could still unknowingly be subjects in an experiment. The Major’s mole, Autumn (Shirley Rumierk), has been keeping a close eye on Ben, providing misinformation about the Singularity Project’s commander in chief. Perhaps they still have complete control over the situation.

In any case, the Major and his/her syndicate is much larger than Ben or anyone has anticipated; Agent Powell being abducted in the premiere’s final moments is evidence to this. He wasn’t apprehended by an official agency because they didn’t identify themselves — and in clandestine lingo — that means a secret meeting is about to happen. The question is, who’ll be at that meeting?

On the more familial side of things, the couples established so far are getting yet another shakeup. Fans keeping up know that Grace, Ben, and Danny (Daniel Sunjata) have been dealing with their strange love triangle but another has cropped up.

Most of us saw this coming but Jared (J.R. Ramirez) confessing his love to Michaela (Melissa Roxburgh) turned out to be a big surprise. Michaela assumed Jared’s near-death experience was the cause for his sudden change of heart but his whole speech about being soulmates makes us think otherwise. It also doesn’t hurt that the speech convinced Michaela to rip into Jared with a sexual lust bar none.

The bad news is that Jared and Michaela’s latest rendezvous will completely break Lourdes (Victoria Cartegena). She struggled with Jared after the Flight 828 disaster and then Michaela’s resurgence created yet another challenge for them. Now, she’ll be devastated.

Lastly, Cal (Jack Messina) and Michaela’s visions of a blizzard are starting to hint at a new connection. None of the passengers that we know about are in a climate that matches the icy environment teased in their visions, begging to question who they’re channeling here.

The snow could be interpreted as a metaphor but Cal’s hand showing signs of frostbite tell us a man is dredging his way through a snowstorm — and this man will eventually reveal himself — we just don’t know if the mystery man is an ally — or a foe.
