While we obviously love Hulu here at HuluWatcher the app can suffer from some glitches on some devices, and it can be frustrating, especially for users who spend a lot of time of the platform. In this article, we’ll explore simple yet effective changes Hulu could implement to make its app more user-friendly and help every viewer enjoy uninterrupted entertainment. See if you agree.

Provide a clear “resume watching” option.

One of the most annoying problems users face is movies starting over instead of resuming from where they left off. A clear, prominent “Resume Watching” button, accessible directly from the home screen or the playback interface, would solve this issue. We see it already in many other streaming services, and the Hulu app often appears to know where you left off, only to start playing at the beginning when you hit play.

It should be noted that the resume watching seems to work just fine on some platforms, like the PC, while not working as well or at all elsewhere, like on the PlayStation 5. Therefore, it’s more likely a compatibility issue than a design flaw. However, since PlayStation 5 is currently the most popular video gaming system, this glitch can potentially affect a large number of viewers.

Other features we’d like to see added

  • While the current algorithm does a great job suggesting movies, it would be nice to add recommendations based on the time of day, mood, viewer ratings, runtime, or watching habits.
  • An option to “skip to the highlights” would be nice for many people, especially parents, who might want to see what a movie is about without watching the entire thing.
  • It would be nice to create and share watchlists.
  • It would be nice to chat with other users when watching a particular movie.
  • More customization of the profiles would be nice.
  • I would like to know more easily when movies are leaving, especially if they are in my favorites or saves.
  • I want to download shows I regularly watch as they come out automatically.
  • I would like more control over the subtitles, especially placement and font.
  • I would like to see reviews of the shows. At least a star system to see what the community thinks when I’m having a hard time making up my mind on what to watch.
  • I would like to see a preview of the shows as I cycle through them to get an idea of whether I want to see a particular title.
